Which competition(s) would you like to sign up for?

The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition supports research-based graduate students in their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. The presentation medium is one static Powerpoint slide. "An 80,000 word PhD thesis would take 9 hours to present. Your time limit... 3 minutes." (University of Queensland 3MT).

The Graduate Student Showcase (GSS) competition gives graduate students the opportunity to tell the story of their graduate work through a creative display or demonstrations (e.g., creative activities, models, projects, displays, etc.). May include sound, video, etc. Students should prepare an “elevator speech” about their showcase entry of no more than 3 minutes for a non-specialist general audience to understand their research. Please note: standard academic research posters will not be accepted as the medium of presentation.

See a detailed breakdown of eligibility, presentation requirements, judging criteria, competition timeline, and prizes on the Graduate School's Three Minute Thesis and Graduate Student Showcase webpage.

Note: You are welcome to participate in both 3MT® and the GSS, as long as the presentations are meaningfully different.
